With advances in technology and the internet, people have virtually unlimited access to information 24/7. In particular, people that want to run an home based business, this can be done ethically, professionally and without all the hype and lies that you constantly see online. You can learn to develop a residual income and have a healthy home based business if you use the right tools, technology and have a coach that can walk you through the process. Before you get start in your business, there are a few office supplies and pieces of equipment that you should have or consider having to bring a profession image to potential clients.


After you have completed all the legal stuff such as, picking a business name, getting it registered, setting up a bank account, finishing your market research, deciding what products or services you are going to offer and making sure you have developed a business plan, then its time to focus on your actual office environment.


How do you actually plan to set up and run your home based business? First, order of business is to set aside some place for an office and organize it. It does not have to big or fancy, just a place where you can put all of your business stuff to keep it separated from the household stuff. Pick a place that has lots of light. Only set up in the basement if you absolutely have to. I know there will be distractions if you are too close to the family but you will be in need of someone to talk to when business is slow. And expect business to be slow until you get established and build up a steady clientele.


What about the actual business resources and supplies? Now that you have your office space picked out it is time to do some shopping and fill that empty space with the tools you will need to conduct your business. First thing on the list should be a business cell phone. Get a simple phone at first and then let the business tell you what you need when you upgrade. So do not get a long term contract. Once you get your new telephone number it is time get your Business Cards made.


Of course its next to impossible in today’s to be effective without a computer and internet access. You do not need to buy the most expensive computer, but one that will meet your needs comfortably for the next 2 to 3 years. Minimum requirement should be 3 GB RAM, 500 GB Hard Drive, Discuss the other requirements with a technician at your local computer store. Do not buy last years, discontinued or refurbished models.


Do you need specialized software programs to run your home based business? You will need a word processor package; again you may be able to get by with what you have. I would however spend my money on a good accounting package. It will save you time and money. You really should be organized with your book keeping and accounting from day one of your business.


The next piece of equipment, the printer, is very important. I would highly recommend an all-in one printer. One that can serve as a: Printer, Fax machine, Scanner, Photo Copier and Printer. There are many good ones on the market check them out at our local computer store.


Next let’s get a computer desk, a good chair, a file cabinet and some file folders. Now you are all set up, get a high speed internet connection and you are ready to go to work. Now that you have the basics in place, you are ready to start your home based business.

This is your life we are talking about. So you need to make decisions that are best for you and your immediate family. Your wife or husband may not be involved in your particular business opportunity, but as long as they understand and are supportive, that is really all you should need. For example, my wife has not always been involved in some of the home based businesses I have done, but she has been supportive as far as saying, if it something that I wanted to do and doesn't interfere with quality family time, then go for it. So, I work my home based business around other priority activities in our family. Vision - The bigger - The better Third, if you have no vision, then how do you expect to be successful. It would be the equivalent to taking a road trip and starting off in New York City and travelling across the United States and somehow ending up in some obscure town in California that you have never visited before. So, when you start doing some dreaming about your future, think big because you want to anchor it to a big enough Vision that will keep you focused and motivated to achieving your goals no matter what. Many people refer to this as your Why. Whatever you want to call it, go through the process and write it down. To often we jump on the MLM train without really investigating or asking enough questions because someone who was a good sales person and convinced you that now is the time. You see, when someone suggests to me that I should do it now, I simply ask, what's the hurry? If this so called home based business opportunity is so good today, then surely next week or next month it should be just as good. My personal perspective is to investigate, ask lots of questions and until you get your questions answered to your satisfaction, avoid jumping on that train. There are thousands of opportunities available at any one time online. Personal Development and Education Fourth, one of the best things you can do for yourself is to invest into personal development and educational programs. Part of the reason, we are exposed to so much negativity at anyone time during the day, its no wonder we have a lot of stinking thinking going on inside of us. So the first step is to get into a new mental paradigm shift and stop feeding your mind negative stuff all the time. If you feed it negative stuff all day long, then guess what? That's right, you might just be tainted and develop a negative mindset. If you feed your mind positive stuff, guess what? You might just end up thinking positive and looking for ways to improve your life. If you want to change your mindset, then change your surroundings and start hanging around successful people. You might be thinking that's kind of hard to give up on friends you have had for many years. Nope, I never said to get rid of your long term friends. But ask yourself, what is your friendship costing you in terms of a quality of life? They say your income is the average of your closest 5 to 10 friends. Maybe the same could be said about your mental state as well. Action You can listen to all of the personal development, weekly conference calls and attend all of the corporate functions available throughout the year, but unless you take daily action to produce results, nothing tangible will really happen in your life. You see if about utilizing a variety of skill sets each day to design your life. Yes, I mean design your life. Being empowered is good, but taking action and producing results is what you must ultimately do in any home based business opportunity if you want success.
